Otter Tail County, Minn.
Minnesota is nicknamed The Land of 10,000 Lakes, and 1,048 of them are located in Otter Tail County, a 2.5-hour drive from Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Real-estate agent Jon Drews says the county has dozens of top-rated fishing lakes, including Otter Tail, Rush and Eagle lakes, as well as countless smaller lakes that attract kayakers and sailboats. Motorboat and water skiing enthusiasts, along with fishermen seeking walleye and bass, help swell the county’s population from about 60,000 in winter to 240,000 in summer, says Drews. Vacation homebuyers hail from as close as neighboring North Dakota and as far away as Alaska.
